Personal Training and Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching

At Port Moody Integrated Health, we understand there is more to fitness than how much time you spend on the treadmill or the amount of weight you can bench press. We see fitness as an integral part of your overall wellness – like one spoke on a wheel that requires a balance of all aspects of life to keep it moving smoothly. This wheel of balance includes your health, career, finances, relationships with family and friends, personal growth and even what you do for fun.

Our individualized training programs are designed with your personal wheel of balance in mind. Working together with your current practitioner, we assess any imbalances and injuries of your musculoskeletal system in order to design a fitness program that is individualized, safe and effective. This program will include leading edge Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching techniques which will aid in correcting any muscle issues and body imbalances you may be experiencing.

Increased strength, endurance and bone density, as well as higher energy levels, enhanced self esteem, lower blood pressure and a decreased risk of injury are just some of the many benefits you will experience from our training programs. Best of all, your personal trainer will be there to educate and support you every step of the way, ensuring you meet and even exceed your fitness goals.

The Ki-Hara method of Resistance stretching  is a hands-on assisted stretching technique which uses your body’s own resistance, and is designed to work with your body’s strengths and weaknesses to help correct muscle imbalances. It is a full body workout made up of 16 different stretches – eight for your lower body and eight for your upper body- with each stretch consisting of the three different components of exercise; strength, flexibility and aerobic training which increases muscle endurance.

Each session is individualized to address your unique body’s needs, goals and challenges, while safely and effectively inceasing range of motion and strength through rotational eccentric and concentric movements. Each assisted session also includes mashing, a form of body work blending thai massage, mashing and foot shiatsu that helps to increase circulation and decrease tension through out the whole body.

Using more traditional forms of stretching can sometimes over-stretch muscle leaving it vulnerable and weak – imagine constantly pulling at an elastic band, eventually the band will lose elasticity, tear or break. Stretching with contracted muscle will help you to experience greater gains in both strength and flexibility, while at the same time protecting your muscles and joints from unnecessary strain and injury.
