Chiropractic

When most people think of chiropractors they think ‘back doctor’, yet chiropractors are actually primary healthcare providers that focus on the neuromusculoskeletal system. The skeletal system provides the bony framework of the body that works dynamically with the muscular system, which attaches to this framework and allows for its movement. Neuro refers to the nervous system that allows for communication to and between the skeletal and muscular systems. Chiropractors focus on restoring function to these systems, striving to achieve optimal functioning of the body.

Whether you are sitting at your desk or running a marathon, the components of these systems need to work together. Chiropractic addresses the whole body to ensure your muscles are functioning optimally in order to stabilize and support your joints. When muscles are not working properly, your joints become less stable, which can in turn lead to pain. We take a holistic approach that includes the understanding that the location of pain is not always where the problem lies.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is beneficial for people of all ages. Although it is widely understood that it decreases stress and helps to control pain, a lesser known benefit is massage therapy’s effectiveness in treating deeper structures of the body, such as ligaments, bones and joints, fascia, blood vessels, organs, and other soft tissues.

Massage therapy can provide relief for many common conditions, while also being effective at improving circulation and immune system function, increasing lymphatic drainage, reducing depression and anxiety, and increasing body awareness. You may also find that you are better equipped to prevent or decrease new injuries from occurring due to your increased flexibility and the suppleness of the muscle tissue that comes with continued treatments. There are many benefits of massage therapy, not the least of which is its ability to enhance your overall sense of emotional and physical well-being, while generally elevating your quality of life.

Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is an individualized medical approach to restoring balance within your body. Treatments are directed at uncovering the underlying causes of imbalance by examining all aspects of health of the whole person. The discipline is also effective at maintaining balance and preventing disease, which can be especially useful for children.

Naturopathic doctors are licensed medical professionals trained in professional medical schools after the completion of an undergraduate degree. In addition to lifestyle and diet modifications, a range of therapies are used, such as botanical medicine, homeopathy, neutriceuticals, and drainage remedies.

Custom Orthotics

At Port Moody Integrated Health, we understand that improper foot alignment can lead to a variety of foot, knee, and lower back problems. This is why we provide a custom orthotics solution together with the specialists at Kintec Footlabs. Custom orthotics can help to cushion and support your foot by redistributing the pressure areas of your foot, while also improving alignment so your body can function more efficiently with less stress on muscles and ligaments.

Our chiropractors will make a cast of your foot and send this to the experts at Kintec Footlabs. They will then apply their many years of experience to creating the best custom orthotics for your foot.

Personal Training and Resistive Flexibility

At Port Moody Integrated Health, we understand there is more to fitness than how much time you spend on the treadmill or the amount of weight you can bench press. We see fitness as an integral part of your overall wellness – like one spoke on a wheel that requires a balance of all aspects of life to keep it moving smoothly. This wheel of balance includes your health, career, finances, relationships with family and friends, personal growth and even what you do for fun.

Our individualized training programs are designed with your personal wheel of balance in mind. Working together with your current practitioner, we assess any imbalances and injuries of your musculoskeletal system in order to design a fitness program that is individualized, safe and effective. This program will include leading edge Resistive Flexibility and Strength Training (RFST) techniques which will aid in correcting any muscle issues and body imbalances you may be experiencing.

Increased strength, endurance and bone density, as well as higher energy levels, enhanced self esteem, lower blood pressure and a decreased risk of injury are just some of the many benefits you will experience from our training programs. Best of all, your personal trainer will be there to educate and support you every step of the way, ensuring you meet and even exceed your fitness goals.

Yoga

Yoga is an ancient science that originated over 5,000 years ago. The practice of yoga encourages the balance of all systems in the body, with yoga postures helping to develop strength and flexibility, while also promoting correct alignment, breathing, and relaxation. At Port Moody Integrated Health, we believe that a flexible and mobile body is an important part of a healthy body, and we have chosen DRU Yoga because it is a graceful and potent form of yoga, based on soft flowing movements, directed breathing, and visualization.

With its foundations set firmly in ancient yogic tradition, it works on the body, mind, and spirit – improving strength and flexibility, while creating core stability. The practice of DRU Yoga can also increase energy levels and help alleviate stress. It is designed to be practiced by people of all abilities and fitness levels. DRU Yoga focuses the mind, helps to release muscle tension, and encourages positive body language (proper alignment). As well, the controlled breathing techniques used in the practice of DRU Yoga help bring awareness within, encouraging the practitioner to be present in the moment, which is an important part of the pursuit of stress relief.
